What to Expect During a Roof Replacement

If you have never had your roof replaced, or it has been a while, you may be wondering how to prepare and what to expect during the roof replacement process. Below we will identify how to be prepared, and what to expect while your roof is being replaced.

Preparation

There are a few tasks homeowners can do before the day of the roof replacement to help make the job run smoother.

Clear vehicles from the driveway: Having the driveway open allows space for materials, trucks, and to remove trash and debris.

Identify important plants: Important plants or garden areas should be identified before the roof replacement starts, allowing extra precautions to be taken if necessary.

Move important furniture: Any important deck / patio furniture should be moved before the start of the job. If an important item is not able to be moved, let us know so we can take extra precaution.

Cut the grass: Having a fresh cut & cleaned lawn allows for better cleanup once the job is finished.

Contact direct neighbors: Let your neighbors know about the roof replacement so they can prepare for the possibility of noise, trash, and extra vehicles around.

Prepare attic space: If any decking needs to be replaced or repaired, it is best to tarp or move important items out of the attic. It is possible for small pieces of debris, dirt, and dust to fall into the attic area while the decking is being replaced / repaired.

Day of Replacement

The following is a general schedule for the day of the replacement. Please know, time of year, weather, type of replacement, and size of replacement may affect the schedule.

7:30 – 9:00 AM: Set Up

Our crew will arrive on site and begin to set-up for the replacement. This includes tarping around the house, setting up ladders and scaffolding if needed.

8:30 – 11:00 AM: Old Roof Removal

The old roof will be removed and the deck will be inspected for any potential repair or replacement needed. The material will be delivered, and our crew will prepare to install.

10:00 – 4:00 PM: New Roof Install

The new roof is being installed with accessories such as skylights, flashings, and ridge vent. The size of the roof, material selected, and weather conditions will all determine how long the installation process takes.

4:00 – 6:00 PM: Clean Up

Our crew will be cleaning up any extra trash, debris, material, and tarping. They will run magnets around the house, driveway, and other areas where nails may be present. A foreman will be available if you have any questions or concerns about any aspects of the replacement.
